H\u00e4r finns fler gourmetrestauranger och lyxhotell per capita \u00e4n n\u00e5gon annanstans i v\u00e4rlden till en br\u00e5kdel av priset j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med stj\u00e4rnkrogarna i Europa och USA. Sk\u00e4let \u00e4r byns historiska band till hugenotterna, de franska protestanter som flydde religi\u00f6s f\u00f6rf\u00f6ljelse i slutet av 1600-talet. De 300 hugenotter som kom till Godahoppsudden mellan 1688 och 1689 f\u00f6rde med sig kunskaper om vinodling och vinframst\u00e4llning. M\u00e5nga av de g\u00e5rdar och ving\u00e5rdar som hugenotterna etablerade runt 1700-talet finns kvar \u00e4n idag och bidrar till Franschhoeks rykte som ett f\u00f6rstklassigt vinproducerande omr\u00e5de. Det finns f\u00f6rst\u00e5s ocks\u00e5 en m\u00f6rk sida av historien som en konsekvens av kolonialismen som inte f\u00e5r gl\u00f6mmas bort. h\u00e4lften av ving\u00e5rdarna har riktigt bra restauranger som serverar lunch och middag. Liksom min sydafrikanske v\u00e4n Joanne och hennes man Paul s\u00e5 tillbringas g\u00e4rna l\u00f6rdagen eller s\u00f6ndagen p\u00e5 en ving\u00e5rd f\u00f6r en riktigt l\u00e5ng lunch, minst tre timmar, antingen \u00e1 la carte eller picknick-lunch. Boka i god tid. M\u00e5nga finns tillg\u00e4ngliga via Dineplan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det finns m\u00e5nga alternativ bland ving\u00e5rdarna. Vissa \u00e4r mycket familjev\u00e4nliga, komplett med lekplatser och saccos\u00e4ckar, medan andra riktar sig mer till seri\u00f6sa vinentusiaster och erbjuder en mer formell matupplevelse. \u00c4r man i Franschhoek en hel vecka s\u00e5 \u00e4r det trevligt att blanda.
