Men det blir inte alltid som man har t\u00e4nkt sig. Tre veckor innan avresa fick maken feeling i samband med ett musik-quiz och stukade foten. Denna gr\u00f6na och frodiga delstat \u00e4r fylld av h\u00f6ga plat\u00e5er och berg, inte minst Drakensbergen med sex bergstoppar \u00f6ver 3000 meter.&nbsp; Som namnet antyder \u00e4r regionen KwaZulu Natal en del av forna Zulu-riket, men efter Anglo-Zulu-kriget i slutet av 1800 talet f\u00f6ljde brittiskt styre och m\u00e5nga, m\u00e5nga \u00e5r av m\u00f6rk historia, men ocks\u00e5 en viktig plats f\u00f6r Nelson Mandela och ANC. Ett typiskt engelskt hotell och stuteri mitt p\u00e5 landsbygden med bra (inte fantastisk) mat d\u00e4r man kan pusta ut efter sina bil\u00e4ventyr. Om du har b\u00e5da f\u00f6tterna i beh\u00e5ll \u00e4r det ocks\u00e5 en bra utg\u00e5ngspunkt om du ska \u00e5ka till <a href=\"https:\/\/drakensbergexperience.co.za\/points_of_interest\/tugela-falls-2nd-highest-waterfall-in-the-world\/\">Tugela Falls<\/a> (v\u00e4rldens n\u00e4st h\u00f6gsta vattenfall, 948 m) och den s\u00e5 kallade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sa-venues.com\/attractionskzn\/drakensberg-amphitheatre.php\">Amfiteatern<\/a> i Norra Drakensbergen.Men utan tv\u00e5 f\u00f6tter fick det allts\u00e5 bli bilburen uppt\u00e4cktsresa. (Jag \u00e4r inte bitter. Med s\u00e5 m\u00e5nga berg finns det gott om bergspass att v\u00e4lja p\u00e5. P\u00e5 siten <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainpassessouthafrica.co.za\/index.php?Itemid=133\">mountainpasses<\/a> kan du se en f\u00f6rteckning av landets samtliga bergspass. Det mest k\u00e4nda \u00e4r <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountainpassessouthafrica.co.za\/find-a-pass\/kwazulu-natal\/410-sani-pass.html\">Sani pass<\/a> som ligger vid gr\u00e4nsen till Lesotho (tag med passet).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vi hade h\u00f6rt att man kunde k\u00f6ra upp f\u00f6r Sani pass med en SUV, men det st\u00e4mmer inte. F\u00f6r att k\u00f6ra upp i Sani pass fr\u00e5n den sydafrikanska sidan s\u00e5 m\u00e5ste man ha en 4&#215;4. Det finns en gr\u00e4nspolis nedanf\u00f6r passet som nekar tilltr\u00e4de om du inte har r\u00e4tt fordon. Vi hade en SUV och fick d\u00e4rf\u00f6r inte k\u00f6ra upp (och vi var f\u00f6r sent ute f\u00f6r att boka in oss p\u00e5 en organiserad tur fr\u00e5n Underberg). Tji f\u00f6r oss, men vi nj\u00f6t desto mer av v\u00e4g P27 mellan Himeville och Mooi River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det \u00e4r 60 km mellan Himeville och Mooi River, men denna ofta smala och slingriga och definitivt skumpiga v\u00e4g kr\u00e4ver l\u00e5ga hastigheter. Det tog oss cirka tre timmar att klara av str\u00e4ckan, men vi bj\u00f6ds p\u00e5 hissnande vyer av Drakensbergen, sm\u00e5 afrikanska byar, och o\u00e4ndligt med kor och getter som strosar omkring. Trots rej\u00e4lt skumpande hade vi g\u00e4rna gjort det igen, men d\u00e5 med en fyrhjulsdriven SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Utmed sj\u00e4lva v\u00e4gen finns nationalparken uMkhomazi som \u00e4r en del av v\u00e4rldsarvet Maloti Drakensberg Park. V\u00e5r upplevelse \u00e4r att v\u00e4garna i Sydafrika \u00e4r bra b\u00e5de i V\u00e4stra Kapprovinsen och KwaZulu Natal. S\u00e5 det finns ingen anledning att inte k\u00f6ra p\u00e5 egen hand. V\u00e4garna har en bokstav f\u00f6ljt av ett nummer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4gar som b\u00f6rjar med <strong>N (national) <\/strong>tillh\u00f6r det nationella v\u00e4gsystemet och \u00e4r v\u00e4ldigt raka och v\u00e4l underh\u00e5llna motorv\u00e4gar med hastighetsgr\u00e4nser mellan 100 och 120 km i timmen. H\u00e4r f\u00e5r du oftast betala v\u00e4gtullar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4gar som b\u00f6rjar med <strong>R (regional)&nbsp; <\/strong>motsvarar en svensk landsv\u00e4g. De \u00e4r asfalterade och slingrar sig fram genom landskapet, d\u00e5 och d\u00e5 med ett h\u00e5l i v\u00e4gen. Inte s\u00e4llan st\u00e5r det ocks\u00e5 varningsskyltar f\u00f6r kor, getter, leoparder och ibland flodh\u00e4star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4gar med bokstaven f\u00f6rst <strong>P (provincial) <\/strong>\u00e4r oftast en grusv\u00e4g och kan vara mer eller mindre framkomlig. Vi k\u00f6rde p\u00e5 P-v\u00e4gar med en Toyota Cross och det var p\u00e5 h\u00e5ret p\u00e5 flera st\u00e4llen att det faktiskt gick att ta sig fram, s\u00e4rskilt uppe i bergen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4gar med bokstaven <strong>D (district)<\/strong> h\u00e5ller ungef\u00e4r samma standard som v\u00e4gar med P.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4l v\u00e4rt att k\u00e4nna till \u00e4r att v\u00e4garna \u00e4r pepprade med fartkameror och att myndigheterna nitiskt skickar fortk\u00f6rningsb\u00f6ter, s\u00e5 l\u00e4tta p\u00e5 gasen \u00e4ven om det \u00e4r frestande och gasar p\u00e5 n\u00e4r v\u00e4gen \u00e4r s\u00e5 fina. Det kan ocks\u00e5 vara v\u00e4rt att bensinmackarna \u00e4r bemannade s\u00e5 du beh\u00f6ver inte ens kliva ut bilen. Och kortbetalningar f\u00f6redras. F\u00f6r att inte beh\u00f6va k\u00f6ra f\u00f6r l\u00e5nga omv\u00e4gar beslutade vi oss f\u00f6r att hitta ett badst\u00e4lle mellan Durban och St Lucia. \u00c4ven om Sodwana bay och omr\u00e5det i n\u00e4rheten av Mocambique s\u00e5g frestande ut s\u00e5 skulle det bli f\u00f6r l\u00e5ngt att k\u00f6ra den h\u00e4r g\u00e5ngen. Efter lite research hittade vi tre str\u00e4nder. Salty Rock\/Balito, St Lucia och Cape Vidal. Alla tre har breda st\u00e4nder, behaglig temperatur (27 c), djupt vatten direkt och rej\u00e4la v\u00e5gor med starka str\u00f6mmar. Ocks\u00e5 gemensamt f\u00f6r str\u00e4nderna \u00e4r att de inte har n\u00e5gra livvakter. S\u00e5 inget f\u00f6r barn eller tunnisar, om man inte n\u00f6jer sig med att g\u00e5 ut med strandkanten och skv\u00e4tta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cape Vidal<\/strong> \u00e4r i en helt egen kategori. En fantastisk strand inne i naturreservatet iSimangaliso d\u00e4r man kan kasta sig i v\u00e5gorna eller titta p\u00e5 sportfiskarna som fr\u00e5n strandkanten drar upp rej\u00e4la fiskar. F\u00f6r att ta dig till stranden beh\u00f6ver du k\u00f6ra igenom iSimangaliso och betala en dagavgift till nationalparken, v\u00e4rt varje rand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det finns enkla toaletter och duschar (och ett bord f\u00f6r att fil\u00e9a fisk), men inget att handla, s\u00e5 ta med dig mats\u00e4ck f\u00f6r dagen. Notera dock att det finns gott om apor i n\u00e4rheten som \u00e4r v\u00e4ldigt sugna p\u00e5 din mat, s\u00e5 l\u00e4mna inget obevakat. Det finns \u00e4ven skyltar som varnar f\u00f6r hajar och krokodiler bland annat. Men det verkade inte bekymra n\u00e5gon bes\u00f6kare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PS N\u00e4rmaste samh\u00e4lle f\u00f6r Cape Vidal heter St Lucia. Trots det gulliga namnet \u00e4r detta en bedagad och ganska sjavig semesterort, men om man bara ska sova s\u00e5 funkar det, men inte mer \u00e4n s\u00e5. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
